From September 20-27, 2024, our Forum Connecting Cultures member, Mohammed Tazrouti, participated as both a group leader and trainer in the transformative “Peace and Conflict Transformation in Nature” Erasmus+ Training Course, held at the Wolfskuil Ommen in The Netherlands. This unique experience provided Mohammed and other youth leaders with invaluable insights into conflict management and peacebuilding, setting the stage for future career and cooperation opportunities in this impactful field.
About the Project: This training course focused on equipping youth workers with sustainable skills for managing conflict and polarization. In a truly immersive experience, participants camped in tipi tents and embraced eco-friendly practices, connecting deeply with nature as a backdrop for exploring peace. The training used creative techniques—such as role visualization, power dynamics, theatre, and outdoor activities—to make complex concepts of conflict visible and practical.
Key training components included:
- Finding Peace in Nature: Discovering natural inspirations and applications for conflict resolution.
- Learning from Nature: Extracting lessons from nature’s harmony and resilience to address conflicts.
- Exploring Polarization in Nature Walks: Reflecting on group dynamics and power roles through guided walks.
Through hands-on activities, participants gained both green and interpersonal peace skills, along with a strengthened sense of community. The project brought together partners from Bulgaria, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Belgium, creating an international network of peace-focused youth leaders who will apply these insights in their local work and communities.
This experience not only fostered new skills for personal and community-level peacebuilding but also established a lasting bond among participants and with nature itself. Mohammed’s journey with Forum Connecting Cultures continues to inspire and pave the way for positive change.
